But along with the development of smartphone technology and design, mobile phone vendors are presenting enhanced battery capabilities. This makes the smartphone battery can last up to a full day. We tried the tips above using a Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Android smartphone running Android 12. Let’s follow the method:
1. Optimize battery usage
Samsung Android comes with tools that make it easy to optimize battery usage automatically. In this case, the Samsung smartphone will close every application running in the background and check if the smartphone is running battery-draining applications.
Samsung does automatically optimize battery usage by default. However, users can also set it manually to ensure the battery can be utilized optimally. The method:
- Open Settings and select the Device care option
- Select Optimize now to run this tool.
If you are not sure whether your Samsung smartphone is really optimizing battery usage, users can check it by selecting the three dots at the top right, selecting Advanced, and activating Auto optimization.
Other Android phones also optimize the use of apps by default. Users can check in each application whether they have implemented battery optimization, if not, enable optimization in each application. The method:
- Open the Settings application, select Apps > All Apps
- Go to the application you want to check and select Battery.
Users can also choose from Unrested (no battery optimization), Optimized (default), or Restricted (which prohibits battery usage even if the app is running in the background).
2. Manage apps
On Samsung devices, users can set the app to “Sleep” aka disable it. This will ensure that the application does not run in the background when the application is not in use. That means, users will not get any notifications or updates from the app. This in turn will help the device battery not drain.
But please note, the application will run again in the background if the user starts opening it again. If the user does not want the application to run in the background at all, the user can put the application into “deep sleep” mode.
This option allows the app to run in the background only when the user opens it and prevents the app from running in the background, even if the user starts opening it again. The method?
Open Settings then go to the Battery and Device Care option
On the Device Care menu, select a graphic icon, then select Sleeping Apps to manually create a “sleep” application, so that the phone can automatically create applications that are rarely used to enter “sleep” mode.
Select the desired applications to “sleep” by selecting the “Add” option.
Users can remove applications from the list by selecting the three dots in the right corner of the screen, then select Remove. When you are done selecting the app, select Remove again.
Follow the same steps to add or remove “Deep sleeping apps” or add and remove apps you don’t want to be added to the “sleep” list.
On other Android smartphones such as the Google Pixel, users can use Doze mode. This feature has the same functionality, as it was introduced in Android 6.0. This feature ensures that applications do not use the battery, when the user is not using a smartphone.
3. Enable Adaptive Battery and Adaptive Brightness
There are two features to save battery, namely Adaptive Battery and Adaptive Brightness. At Samsung, both use AI to learn how users use apps and screens, then adjust settings based on those habits.
The goal is for apps and screens to only draw from power when they are needed. Users can enable Adaptive Brightness and Adaptive Battery by default. Or you can activate it manually, here’s how:
- Open Settings, select Device Care > Battery
- Select App power management and make sure to enable Adaptive battery
For Pixel and non-Samsung smartphones, you can use a similar method.
- Go to Settings and select Battery > Adaptive preference
- Make sure Adaptive battery is enabled.
To enable Adaptive Brightness that applies to all Android smartphones, do the following:
- Open Settings, select Device Care > Battery
- Select App power management and make sure to enable Adaptive battery
For Pixel and non-Samsung smartphones, you can use a similar method.
Go to Settings and select Battery > Adaptive preference
- Make sure Adaptive battery is enabled.
To enable Adaptive Brightness that applies to all Android smartphones, do the following:
- Go to phone settings then select Display
- Find and tap Adaptive brightness and enable it if it is not already enabled.
